| "...PRODIGIES
seldom live up to their early promise, but BILLIE SHANKA
FRALEIGH is an exception to the rule. Eleven years ago, when a
student at Rome's Overseas School, BILLIE was awarded her first
arts prize for her painting of the Madonna in an exhibit
organized by the American Embassy. A successful future was
predicted for her by those who saw her work. The daughter of an
official of the U.N.'s Food and Agricolture Organization here,
BILLIE later studied at the Tyler School of Art in Rome, and
eventually earned a fine arts degree from the American
University in Washington. Since returning to Rome she has
developed into a dynamic abstract artist, working in both oils
and etchings. Exemples of both media are offered in BILLIE's
first exhibition, which opens today at the Schneider Gallery on
Rampa Mignanelli..." |
